Summer in Winter by Joshua Armitage
We're proud to present an exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by Joshua Armitage. The paintings in 'Summer in Winter' delve in to Josh's past and merge them with recent observational drawings from south London mixing his memories of West Yorkshire with his current experiences. The paintings are presented with a selection of observational drawings. This exhibition will be on display at Theatre Deli Broadgate from 15 January- 12 February.
Private View 6pm on the 17th of January at the Deli Bar

All my work finds its routes in drawing both from observation and memory. After studying drawing under Martin Morris at the Royal College of Art, I became increasingly interested in the ideas and philosophies of artists like Roy Oxlade, and David Bomberg. The paintings I make begin as observational drawings. I believe that the shapes, forms and gestures collected in these drawings are far more interesting than those I could invent but I am then free to use these as I wish.
I want to catch within the paintings a set of specific potent feelings that I find hard to describe but that occur at certain times throughout my life. I want to use light and space in my paintings to recreate an idea of these feelings.
