In the mean streets and alleyways of Sicilia, Leontes is King.
The young leader is the epitome of his country's ideal. At his side the devoted
Hermione, the perfect mother to his son and heir. Leontes, with his oldest
friend and ally Polixenes, effortlessly glides through the politics and
parties, leaving a trail of adoring followers in his wake.
But beneath the veneer of Leontes' sharp suit beats the heart of a jealous
tyrant. In his twisted reality the woman he holds is an adulterous wife,
his erstwhile friend is the father to his bastard child and outside the
walls his people mock and jeer.
But at what cost vengeance?
Critically acclaimed theatredelicatessen extend their residency at the derelict
Cavendish Gate (295 Regent Street)
due to the generosity of the Property Merchant
Group, with Shakespeare's brutal examination of love and jealousy, The
Winter's Tale.
Inspired by the dangerous, stylish city-state of the Kray's East London,
director Jessica Brewster's immersive production leads the audience from the
shadows and shifting walls of the city, through the storms of the wild coasts
into the heart of the Bohemian idyll.
