Team Changes at Theatre Delicatessen

March 3rd, 2010 by Roland Smith

After two and a half incredible years, Mauricio Preciado Awad has decided to leave TheatreDelicatessen to explore new opportunities. He is sad to be leaving, and is extremely grateful for having had the opportunity to work with such a talented bunch! Originally from Bogota, Colombia, Mauricio was a founding member of TheatreDelicatessen, for which he was Executive Producer of its first six shows. He has a BSc in Economics and Management from the University of Bristol and a CA from ICAS. Production management experience includes Getting Uncomfortable and Property Comic (Cavendish Gate). Stage Management experience includes Hooked at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He gains his inspiration from current affairs, travelling, films but no longer audit, and is constantly looking for outlets that will allow him to unleash his artistic expression. TheatreDelicatessen would like to thank him for all the time and hard work he has devoted to the company. He will be missed by all those who worked with him, and we all wish him the best for the future. Josh Cass has joined the company, and will be overseeing the future development of theatredelicatessen as Company Manager. We welcome him on board and look forward to an exciting year at 3-4 Picton Place.

Critical Response

"Almost unbearable to watch yet so compelling you can't stop watching...There are some standout performances from the young cast, and the play is perfectly matched to this here-today-gone-tomorrow pop-up venue"
-- FOUR STARS, Lyn Gardner, THE GUARDIAN

"It's evidence that the controversy that greeted its premiere was not all Mercury Fur had to offer; even with its shocks somewhat blunted by foreknowledge, it just takes the right company in the right space to reveal the heart behind the horrors."
-- Matt Boothman, BRITISH THEATRE GUIDE

Audience Feedback

"Theatre Delicatessen's Mercury Fur - the best piece of theatre i have ever seen, fact. "
-- NichFleming, Twitter

"Can't recomend strongly enough. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing like this on the london stage at the moment. The acting is incredible from such a young cast. And the space fits the play perfectly. This is theatre that stays with you long after you leave."
-- Mike, WhatsOnStage Comment

"Saw Mercury Fur tonight and it was superb. It's one of my favourite plays and it was wonderful to see it again and to see it so expertly performed and staged. Well done!"
-- Jan Poklewski, Facebook theatredelicatessen page

"Saw Mercury Fur last night. Totally wow'ed by it. Thanks for a great production!"
-- Laura Whittaker, Facebook theatredelicatessen group

"Mercury Fur - gripping and deeply moving, 1 of the most exciting things I've seen recently! So impressed I may come back."

"there is a heady, at times almost romantic quality to the crumbling world Mercury Fur evokes...the torture sequence itself remains ferocious."
-- Andrzej Lukowski, TIME OUT

"Frances Loy's production is not wanting for atmosphere...There are several stand-out performances...there's no shortage of black humour to grease the wheels, and much promise in this young company."
-- Theo Bosanquet, WHAT'S ON STAGE

"There are some compelling performances in this production and Loy's confident direction has employed full use of the space to encourage the audience to feel they are in the moment with the characters."
-- Katherine Hayes, UK THEATRE NET

"blazingly good...With its bleak humour, and powerful sense of foreboding, this is a dangerous, intense and occasionally excruciating piece of experiential theatre."
-- Aleks Sierz

"Performed by a universally impressive cast, this is a pungent and disturbing event from a promising theatre company."
-- FOUR STARS, Joseph Cattell, BOYZ MAGAZINE

"The actors a fine ensemble - are exceptionally good"
-- Robert Tanitch, THEATRE GUIDE LONDON
